the three ring circus hides under the tent
Foraging picks through the center island
Awkward keeps his eyes down
Put-it-off drops wrappers everywhere
Obsessive wipes the counters to dazzling
Martyr-complex kneels ’til callouses form
the dull light of Guilt never dims
Entertainer pirouettes round the ring

I am fortunate to have prompts each day in April from a marvelous poet and mentor, Jan Hutchinson. Here is her poem for today’s theme:
Expectation has the hiccups
Careless wears mismatching socks
and spills coffee all down his front
Grief shovels snow all day
and still the world is white
Loneliness is a cat
with yellow eyes
watching from night’s windowsill
Madness tirelessly hurls himself
against the bastions of sanity
Wonder is a geyser spouting
up through the heart’s floor
out through the roof
to pump the sky with wings
