Superhighway

I blink
Off road
Sitting on the shoulder.

Facebook waves.
My friends and family wink in video
Art shows
Snow days
Comments, likes, and links.

Try to choose
A video.
Macbook wants to upgrade Flash.
Firefox wants to upgrade next.
Macbook wants me to help the download to an app on my hard drive.
I choose Adobe Go Live.
Get a delete button.
Woops!
I’m thrown out of the turning lane!

Too much information!
I leave the room.
Wander off.
Turn away from the super power
super cables
firewires
passwords
updates
downloads
commands
options
preferences
electronics
mobil devices
plug-ins.

Watch the rain.
Count puddles.
Ocean waves.

Become a grain of sand
Evolving.
Minerals in action.

Observer of the universe.

from Therese L. Broderick — I like your insight that the “super power” nowadays is not a nation, but the virtual “Superhighway.” I like how the digitalized “wave” at the start of the poem shifts to the real ocean “wave” at the end of the poem, and how the evolving technology upgrades in the middle of the poem shift to “evolution” at the end of the poem. Yes, we all need to get off computers to observe the universe.
